The album's fruition came about from the chemistry between the two emcees.

Great album from two of the most underrated artists in the hip hop world, cheers for rapid delivery, thank you The album was released on September 29, 1998, to critical acclaim.

Wish they would reunite for another cd.

Mos Def & Talib Kweli are Black Star BLACK STAR. I like thoughtful hip hop that also has a good beat and melody. Please try againSorry, we failed to record your vote.
The album's cover was designed by artist Brent Rollins. I can only play it when the kids are not around, but turn it up whenever I get a chance.

Love it! Even in hip-hop--a genre famous for auspicious debuts--Black Star, the first album from the team of Mos Def and Talib Kweli, stands out. It's not just because these guys know their history (an update of Slick Rick's classic "Children's Story," a fine jack of BDP's "The P Is Free" on "Definition," and shout-outs to 2Pac, Biggie, and the Rock Steady Crew) and have paid their dues.

very few rappers compare to this and if u dont know of this u dont kno hip hop Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star (often called simply Black Star ) is the debut studio album by Black Star, a hip hop duo consisting of emcees Talib Kweli and Mos Def (the latter of whom now goes by Yasiin Bey).

Please try againSorry, we failed to record your vote. I usually don't like Mos Def, but I actually like him a lot on "Black Star". Sounds crazy, maybe we just have similar tastes, but going all the way back to KRS-1------He has given me nothing but true classics. This is top quality hip-hop...no gangsta rap here. Revolutions Per Minute REFLECTION ETERNAL. Me and Mos Def are in the final stages of the Blackstar album.

Basically every song here is instantly catchy and likable, which I couldn't say for most of either of their solo albums.

2 of the most talented mc's that came together to create black starr.a well worthy addition to anybodys hiphop collection.

The lyrics, as usual, are well-worth your time to listen to as they're well-written and discuss the real problems with the world today (mostly dealing with black culture, though). I am telling you, Chris Rock could be a music critic.

I shut-up & listen, & he has never failed me with any bad ear candy. Singles. I would argue that "Black Star" is much better than any of Mos Def's or Talib Kweli's solo albums (not to say that they aren;t bad - they both have classic albums), mostly because of how accessible and fun it is.

This does not disappoint.

Great beats and rhythm to this unique album?excellent

I have listened to him since he had the tempermental "Tricky" on his HBO show. A very talented duo.

This was a bold creation of intelligent Hip-Hop. The beats here are much much better, and both MCs are easier to hear and like on this album. Please try againSorry, we failed to record your vote.

The song encourages black and brown women to be proud of their hair and complexion, and to not be influenced by Western beauty standards. Please try againSorry, we failed to record your vote.
